A randomised clinical trial to compare early versus delayed endovenous treatment of superficial venous reflux in patients with chronic venous ulceration.
Design and Objective
The EVRA trial is designed to determine the benefit and cost of treating the underlying venous problem of leg ulcers before the ulcer has healed compared to treating the underlying venous problem once the ulcer has healed which is currently the standard in the UK.
Key inclusion criteria
Current leg ulceration > 6 weeks, but < 6 months duration Able to give informed consent to participate in the study Patient age > 18 years Ankle Brachial Pressure Index (ABPI) ≥ 0.8 Superficial venous disease on colour duplex assessment deemed to warrant ablation by the treating clinician (either primary recurrent venous reflux)
