Neil Poulter is Professor of Preventive Cardiovascular Medicine at Imperial College London and Honorary Consultant Physician at Hammersmith Hospital. He is Co-Director of the International Centre for Circulatory Health, Imperial College London. He is President Elect of the ISH and on the Scientific Policy and Advocacy Committee of the W.H.F.
In 2008, he was elected as one of the inaugural 100 NIHR Senior Investigators in England and Wales and in 2009 he was elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences.
He is among the most cited academics in clinical medicine as reported in the Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researcher 2014 Report.
Neil has played a senior role in the design management and conduct of several major trials including ASCOT and ADVANCE; other research activities include the optimal investigation and management of essential hypertension and dyslipidaemia; the association between birth weight and hypertension; the cardiovascular effects of exogenous oestrogen and progesterone; the prevention of type 2 diabetes; and ethnic differences in cardiovascular disease
